Dear Port Angeles School District Families and Community,
It is with a mixture of pride and sadness that we, the Port Angeles School Board, share the news that Superintendent Martin “Marty” Brewer has made the decision to transition to semi-retirement and embark on new ventures, effective August 29, 2025. This decision, thoughtfully made by Marty with plenty of transition time for the district, comes as he closes a remarkable chapter of leadership in our district.
Over the past seven years, Marty has been a visionary leader, a compassionate listener, and an unwavering advocate for our students, staff, and community. His steady leadership, particularly during challenging times, brought both continuity and strength to our district, guiding us through complexities with resilience and clarity. Marty’s commitment to keeping students’ best interests at the heart of his decisions has been instrumental in shaping our district’s mission and progress.
Under Marty’s leadership, we have collectively achieved significant milestones, including:
-
A 30-year facilities plan that led to the successful passage of the recent November 2024 bond and previously the 2020 capital projects levy. These efforts laid the foundation for the district’s future growth and modernization for decades to come.
-
The development of a comprehensive strategic plan shaped by over 1,100 stakeholders, reflecting the voices and values of our entire community.
-
An essential and unprecedented partnership with the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe (LEKT), built on mutual respect and understanding, and recognized as one of the strongest in the state.
-
Strong pandemic leadership, making us one of the first districts west of the mountains to safely return students to in-person learning.
-
The creation of Seaview Academy, a collaborative multi-district Alternative Learning Experience (ALE) model, broadening educational pathways for our students.
-
Expanded CTE and STEM programs across all secondary schools, creating new opportunities for career and technical education.
-
The passage of two Educational Programs & Operations (EP&O) levies — a true testament to the community’s trust in our district’s vision and leadership.
-
The launch of a mobile clinic in partnership with NOHN, bringing essential health services directly to our schools.
Marty’s impact is seen not only in these accomplishments but also in the relationships he has formed across our community. His straightforward, strategic, and caring approach has strengthened our schools, ensuring that each student has the support, tools, and opportunities they need to succeed. The passing of our most recent bond speaks volumes about the trust Marty has built with the community—a trust we are profoundly grateful for.
Our board will convene in December to begin the work of finding a new school district leader. With an August departure date, Marty has left our board and community time for a thorough search process, and we will share information on this process as we solidify details.
As Marty steps forward into a new season, he will leave Port Angeles School District knowing that our schools continue to be on a path to a bright future.
With warmest regards and sincere appreciation,
The Port Angeles School Board
